LIVE + ONLINE 2021
at the riverfront

ABOUT

The TigerFace Show is an hour long chaotic comedy piece about childhood dreams and adulthood. The work promotes positive

mental wellbeing and aims to create a deeper understanding of how diverse mental illness can be.

Wrap around experiences such as adult arts + crafts, competitions and kiddish workshops for grownups, promote the power of play in our adult lives.

The piece was developed in 2018 as part of The Bristol Old Vic's Ferment Fortnight, and since then has had a run as part of The Other Room Spring Fringe 2019.

It is now being fully developed into a live show that will be performed to small audiences in the studio at The Riverfront whilst also streaming to audiences online. It is supported by The Riverfront and is being funded by Arts Council of Wales.

ROLES AVAILABLE

As the work expands and develops we're looking to work with four brilliantly talented creative practitioners who can bring a host of new skills and expertise into the project, helping us to reach further and have greater impact.

Our current creative team is small but mighty. It includes Justin Teddy Cliffe as Creator/Performer and Kirsty Harris as Designer/Maker.

In August 2021 & Sept 2021 the work will enter a focused phase of redevelopment before being restaged at The Riverfront Theatre. To support this vital phase of the work we're looking for; a Producer, a Dramaturge, a Costume Designer and a Technical Designer.

Below is a description of each job role and details on how to apply.

DEADLINE: 5PM. WEDS 14th JULY.

INTERVIEWS: DAY. FRI 16th + MON 19th JULY.

Note: We are particularly interested to hear from people who consider themselves to be marginalised in the creative industries. We are also particularly interested if you are in the early/emerging phases of your career.

Equalities monitoring will happen independently and via online form after application.

+ Producer

PRODUCER AUDIO

The role of the Producer in this context is to support the endeavour from an administrative and overall strategic viewpoint.

Understanding that the work is happening both in-person and online; the workload will be multi-faceted and applicants should be prepped with knowledge on how to communicate and promote the work digitally and online.

The role of the Producer will also include developing

the shows Covid guidelines and Risk Assessments, as well as collaborating with our Access Consultant on accessible versions of the work.

An important part of the project includes the development of a robust community engagement strategy. This will include communicating with

groups and promoting workshops to adults, and we have the support of two mental health organisations and The Riverfront for this. The peripheral workshops we want to offer focus on communicating and exploring mental health and wellbeing through play. These workshops will also be an opportunity to build relationships and potentially develop new non-traditional theatre audiences.

A specific aim we have for the work is to tour it (when the world opens back up). Part of this employment will be about targeting and inviting venues to view the work digitally, with the aim of creating a pathway to touring and other avenues of future development and support.

+DRAMATURGE

DRAMATURGE AUDIO

In this context the role of the Dramaturge is less about script editing and more about having a clear vision of the overall piece from a narrative and emotional viewpoint.

As I devise and create the work physically, I flex

between the role of Writer and Director. More often than not this process doesn't enable me to have a strong and clear vision of the overall narrative structure. Therefore I am looking to experiment and develop a new type of working relationship with someone who can collaborate with me on blended approaches to Dramaturgy in devised performance.

I want to work with someone confident and intuitive

who can gather a complete conceptual overview of the work, and also someone who can provoke new avenues of creative thought.

Having an understanding of devised theatre practice, clown and first person performance will also be important, but is not absolutely essential.

If you don't consider yourself an official

"dramaturge", but believe you have the knowledge and skillset required to facilitate the above, we would be interested to hear from you.

+COSTUME DESIGNER

COSTUME DESIGNER AUDIO

A Costume Designer in this setting will be focusing on not only what the costume looks like, but how it enables the lead performer to move and use it for comical value.

It's an important part of the the overall aesthetic, but is also an essential part of the methodology of the work; inspired by pantomime and bouffon.

Conceptually the idea for the costume is already formed, but we are looking for a Costume Designer who is confident enough to work with the Show Designer and the lead performer to figure out how it should be realised.

The outfit will need to be layered, long lasting, washable and light weight.

We're looking to work with someone who has a good design eye, is knowledgable when it comes to appropriate use of materials and can collaborate with the existing to create something a-tuned to the rest of the work.

Some experience of creating costumes for Pantomime, Bouffon Clown shows, or similar is desirable, but not fundamental.

+TECHNICAL DESIGNER

TECH DESIGN AUDIO

The show is made up of numerous technical elements. From lighting, integrated video projection, intuitive audio design and now live streaming.

The responsibilities of Technical Designer in this context will be to focus on the design and show running of the video projection and audio. The choice of programming method and technical approach is the responsibility of the Technical Designer, however you will also be working in collaboration with the Technical Team at The Riverfront on the overall vision and technical capacity of the work.

The creative design of the video/audio content is already in place. The visuals are made up of hand drawn cartoon imagery and basic cell animation, creating a retro and rough aesthetic. The audio design is made up of plinky plonky kids music and includes sfx triggered by the movement and gestures of the performer.

Knowledge on integrating visual projection into live performance is a must, whilst also being aware of how the visual identity of the work might be translated to audiences watching from home.

This role will include collaborating with the Show Designer on the building of the visual infrastructure for the projection, and collaborating with the technical team at The Riverfront on the lighting design and use of available equipment.

There is a reasonable budget for the purchasing of items for new technical solutions.

THE RIVERFRONT

TICKET LINK COMING SOON

The TigerFace Show is a semi-autobiographical, partly improvised, comedy-performance piece about mental health and adulthood, that asks us to re-evaluate what it is we really want to be when we grow up and find child-like happiness in adulthood.

Performed as a mad and frantic hour of physical comedy, the central character attempts to re-create the last ever episode of his old kid’s tv serial The TigerFace Show.

The performance quickly unfurls into an audience responsive, ragged-scream-party-piece, that’s one part misery, two parts joyful.

FREE Piña Colada!*

Having developed the work through The Bristol Old Vic’s Ferment scheme, with support from The Riverfront Theatre and funding from Arts Council Wales, the work premiered at The Other Room, Cardiff, in spring 2019 receiving critical acclaim.
