ABOUT MASCOTS

MASCOTS is a new short film about male mental health and happiness culture. The script has been developed by Justin Teddy Cliffe with Ffilm Bach & Mawr and lead performer Antonio Rimola.

The story is about Andy, a 30-something-male, who finds himself unfulfilled in life. Scrolling through social media he finds an advert for JoyTex, a company that provides better mental health solutions, for a price.

The film is a surrealist horror comedy that aims to open up a wider dialogue about "buying" better mental health.

The aesthetic of the film is colour-filled and wild, subverting the mundane/everyday with cartoonishness, movement, music and physical special effects i.e lighting, costumes, glitter + confetti. Inspired by how these ideas work in theatre we are attempting to translate this aesthetic to film.

It's a self-funded production that is being shot over the course of a week by a small professional team in Newport, South Wales. Some filming might take place in Cardiff, also.
